Maria Menounos

As she was caring for her mother who suffers from stage 4 brain cancer Maria found out she was facing an illness that was her own. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. In the cover story in PEOPLE Menounos admits that she experienced headaches and lightheadedness while on set. "My speech became disorganized. I also had trouble understanding the prompter on the teleprompter." A MRI revealed Menounos to have a very large meningioma brain tumor that had grown up to the size that of a golf ball. It was pushing on the facial nerves. Menounos reached an agreement to see the Dr. Keith L. Black the neurosurgeon of her mother and set the surgery to be performed on June 8. Menounos is now 39 years old. He told her, "I am 98 percent positive that the tumor is not malignant, but we'll never know until we go into the," In the arduous surgery which lasted about seven hours the doctor. Black was able to remove 99.9 percent of the tumor. The result was benign. She claims that Dr. Black said it was feasible to observe the tumor come back in six-to seven percent of cases. It's a good thing I can accept these odds at any moment. Menounos has been admitted to the hospital for six days, is currently at home, and spending recuperating. Maria Maria Maria
