Mary Eileen McDonnell (born April 28, 1952) is an American stage actress and film actor. McDonnell was awarded an Academy Award nomination for her performance in Stands With A Fist in Dances with Wolves and she is well-known for her role as president Laura Roslin in Battlestar Galactica as the wife of President in Independence Day and for her prominent part in Donnie Darko as the title persona's mother.
